Alda Licensed Veterinary Technician
Alda graduated from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA in 2006 with a BS in Veterinary Medical Technology. She then chose to work in general practice at a busy local multiple doctor clinic for four years before deciding to work for a specialty practice and has been with TOS since early 2010. For Alda, one of the rewarding aspects of working in veterinary oncology has been the opportunity to form a close bond with pets and their owners and to be able to provide support during an often unsettling and emotionally sensitive time.
Carrie Licensed Veterinary Technician
Carrie graduated from Medaille College in Buffalo, NY in May 2003 with an associates degree in Veterinary Technology and later graduated in May 2005 from Fredonia State University in Fredonia, NY with a bachelors degree in Biology. She enjoys the opportunities at The Oncology Service to further explore her passion for clinical research while acting as the office's Site Study Coordinator.
Carrie Ann Veterinary Assistant
Carrie Ann was born in Washington D.C but was raised in a small town outside of Gainesville, FL. (Go Gators!). Her career in veterinary medicine began in 2000 and she has never looked back. Her heart is in it and always will be. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and getting a little bit artsy. She is a singer and songwriter and likes to perform locally whenever she can. She feels blessed to be part of the TOS team.
Casey Licensed Veterinary Technician
Casey graduated from St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, NC in 2012 with a BA in Business Administration. After interning over the summer at a small equine practice, she took a greater interest in veterinary medicine. In 2014, she graduated from Sanford-Brown College, in Tysons Corner, VA with an AAS in Veterinary Technology and spent some time at a local equine hospital administering anesthesia and performing specialized diagnostic imaging before joining the team in the Radiation Department at TOS in the fall of 2015. Casey was born and raised in Northern Virginia and lives on a farm with her three horses who she enjoys spending time with, riding and showing.
Coby Customer Service Representative
Coby is a native to Virginia and currently resides in West Virginia with her husband, daughter, 3 cats and 3 dogs. Coby has always been an animal lover, having pets around her whole life. Coby’s love of animals is what drove her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine and continues her dedication to this field since 2003. Coby’s dog Brandy was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in April 2015. She successfully completed treatment with radiation and chemotherapy in May 2015 and is currently cancer free.
Colleen Licensed Veterinary Technician
Colleen graduated from Morehead State University in 2006, and obtained a license in Veterinary Technology in Virginia. She has spent the last nine years working in several aspects of specialty medicine including, emergency and critical care, surgery, internal medicine, neurology, and radiation oncology. Her particular interests lie in anesthesia and analgesia. Colleen joined TOS in the radiation department in 2013.
Danielle Operations Lead and Licensed Veterinary Technician
Danielle graduated from Saint Petersburg College in 2007 with a degree in veterinary technology. Her lifelong love of animals lead her into the veterinary field where she has been for the past 11 years. Her interest in veterinary oncology started while working at an internal medicine practice and later deepened after working at the University of Florida’s small animal hospital in their oncology service. She recently relocated to Virginia after spending the majority of her life in Florida. She joined The Oncology Service team in October of 2016. Danielle resides in Leesburg, VA with her two dogs.
Jon Radiation Oncology Therapist
Jon was born and raised in northern Virginia. His experience in veterinary medicine started with primary care and within a few years Jon developed a strong interest in specialty medicine. With training ranging from emergency to surgery and just about everything in between Jon spent his first year with The Oncology Service in the Medical Oncology department before transitioning to Radiation Oncology when the department opened. Jon's duties within the radiation department include, but are not limited to, patient care, positioning patients for treatments, creating positioning devices and routine checks/maintenance of the linear accelerator. Jon still resides in Northern Virginia with his wife and children and enjoys various outdoor activities.
Karla Customer Service Representative
Karla is a West Virginia native. She resides in eastern panhandle of West Virginia with her husband, 2 sons, her cat and dog. Karla entered the Veterinary world 14 years ago bringing with her 10 years of Customer Service experience as a retail manager. Before coming to TOS in Feb 2017 she worked as a Veterinary Receptionist at a small animal practice and earned her associates degree from Hagerstown Community College. When Karla is not at TOS helping the staff take care of clients and patients she enjoys spending time with family, friends, her pets and taking exercise classes especially Zumba.
Tara Veterinary Assistant
Tara provides the team front desk support and assists in both the Radiation and Medical Oncology departments. Rotating support is challenging and allows her to explore multiple facets of a very active practice. As a lifelong animal lover, she ventured into veterinary medicine in 2006 and has worked in general practice until joining TOS. Tara enjoys supporting the pets and their families through treatment and tries to minimize the stresses for both. Tara lives in Northern Virginia with her boyfriend, daughter and their four cats. When not at work, she likes fishing, hiking and pretty much anything outdoors.
Becky Head Radiation Therapy Technician
Becky started her veterinary career at the bottom at the age of 13, by cleaning out barns and showing cattle at the New York State Fair. After graduation from SUNY at Delhi in 1977, she continued in large animal medicine, until accepting a position in small animal surgery with Dr. Martin DeAngelis. After marriage to her cowboy husband, David, and the birth of their first daughter, the cowboy decided to go to graduate school, and so started the next odyssey. Moving to Virginia 12 years ago gave Becky the chance to pursue specialization in Oncology. The Oncology Service has offered new opportunities for learning and to care for these very special patients, and renewed determination to end her career when they roll her out of the building in a wheel chair! Becky enjoys creative sewing, (including pet bandanas), visits with her accomplished daughters, and keeping current with the quickly evolving field of veterinary oncology.
Emily Licensed Veterinary Technician
Emily started her career in veterinary medicine in 2004. Over the past few years, she has worked in a variety of veterinary practices, from general medicine, to emergency and critical care. In 2014, she received her associates degree in veterinary technology from Blue Ridge Community College. Her interests include: critical care, anesthesia and laboratory procedures. She enjoys spending time with her family, including her darling daughter, Okalini, her yorkie, and Dinah, a jack Russell / beagle mix. Emily joined TOS Richmond in June 2016, and is a welcome addition to the radiation oncology team!
Hilary Customer Service Representative
Hilary is a native of Richmond, Virginia, and lifelong animal lover. She grew up with cats, but in recent years has come to know and understand the special bond that exists between humans and dogs. Hilary started with The Oncology Service in October of 2016. She is new to the world of veterinary medicine, and already learning a lot about radiation. When not assisting clients and patients, Hilary spends her time spoiling her cats, Zeus and Joey, going on adventures with her dog, Autumn, spending time with friends and family, and volunteering with Richmond Animal League. Hilary also works for FETCH a Cure, a wonderful non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to owners whose pets are undergoing cancer treatment.
Candace Licensed Veterinary Technician
Candace is a 2008 Blue Ridge Community College graduate who did her externship in emergency medicine in Winchester Virginia. She has been in the field of Veterinary medicine since 2005 and joined TOS in February of 2012. Her compassion and attention to detail make her a great asset to our team.
Heather Client Service Representative
Heather entered into Veterinary Medicine back in 2001 after leaving the world of Retail Management. She joined the TOS team in April of 2014. Her love of animals started young and she is especially fond of Tabby cats and Greyhounds. In addition to her love of animals she is a big Pittsburgh Steelers Fan and loves FleetwoodMac.
Katie Veterinary Assistant
Katie was born and raised in Richmond, VA. She has worked in Veterinary Medicine since 2008 and joined the TOS team in early 2013. She has a particular interest in Oncology, specifically cytology. Small animal medicine is her calling, and she hopes to one day be a licensed veterinary technician. Katie and her husband Josh have 3 dogs: Penny, a smooth coat Dachshund; Sissy, a Beagle and Meera, a Plotthound/Shepherd mix. In her spare time she enjoys music, travelling and art. Although she loves all dogs, she has a special fondness for Dachshunds.
Sarah Licensed Veterinary Technician
Sarah started her career in Veterinary Medicine in 1999. She became a Licensed Technician in 2008 and we were lucky to have her join the TOS team in 2014. Sarah is a compassionate technician with a special love of Pitbulls. In addition to her love of animals, Sarah likes to read and enjoys gardening and cooking.
Taylor Veterinary Assistant
Taylor joined TOS in October 2015, after realizing a lifelong passion to work with animals. It is her first job in the veterinary field, and she has excelled at learning the basics of small animal assisting. She graduated from Germanna Community College with an Associates in Business in 2016, and hopes to one day open an animal rescue. She has a soft spot for Labrador Retrievers, her first dog being a chocolate Lab named Hunter. Taylor and her boyfriend, Grant, have an Australian shepherd named Brayden and tuxedo cat Kaleigha. In her spare time, she enjoys the great outdoors and is an avid reader. Taylor is a great addition to the TOS team.
Ana Veterinary Assistant
Ana is a native of Northern Virginia and currently lives in Springfield. She started working at a general veterinary practice in 2002 and after 10 years, decided to transition to oncology. Ana has enjoyed working with cancer patients and with their owners. During her free time she enjoys camping, gardening, and the outdoors. Ana shares her home with her fiance, Scott, and their 3 dogs Jade, Laika, and Escobar.
Ann Operations Lead and Licensed Veterinary Technician
After graduating with a degree in music, Ann realized that she was meant to follow another career path. While working at a busy feline veterinary practice for six years, she became a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2004. That year, her first cat was diagnosed with cancer. When the opportunity to work at a veterinary oncology practice came about in 2006, Ann jumped at the chance to learn more about cancer and the various treatment options. It was also very important to her to be able to support other people who were experiencing the heartbreaking and stressful undertaking that occurs when their beloved pets have cancer. In the course of working for oncology, she has been trained to treat and care for pets undergoing radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and I-131 therapy. Ann is now the Office Coordinator for the Springfield location and is excited about this new part of her journey. She and her family have two cats, Duncan and Chiquita Banana (two time cancer survivor!).
Brandi Customer Service Representative
Brandi is a Virginia native who loves pets, country music, and the ocean! She has worked in veterinary medicine since the age of 16, with a brief turn in physical therapy. Brandi is a certified Pilates and Barre instructor, and a former CNA. She discovered Veterinary Oncology through a family member and love the challenge of it. Brandy loves working with family members to make sure their pets are comfortable during a difficult time, and the owners are comforted during the entire process. It is such a rewarding experience working at TOS.
George Veterinary Radiation Therapy Assistant
George began his career assisting in veterinary medicine in 2003 at a large teaching hospital. He has assisted in surgery, radiology, and puppy socialization, and his passions are radiation oncology and behavior. When he is not working, George enjoys spending time with loved ones and taking his dog, Daphne, on long, relaxing walks.
Jess Licensed Veterinary Technician
Jess is a native of Alexandria, Virginia and graduated from West Potomac High School. She attended Virginia Wesleyan College in Virginia Beach for a year before transferring to Northern Virginia Community College, where she was a student in the Veterinary Technician program. Jess received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in veterinary technology, and became a Licensed Veterinary Technician in Virginia in 2009. She has worked in the veterinary field for 13 years and enjoys working towards a cure for cancer. She shares her home with a super snuggly Pitbull, Zeke, and three cats, Chloe, Sassy, and Belle, who rule the house.
Kaitlyn Licensed Veterinary Technician
Kaitlyn is a Pittsburgh native who is currently living in Leesburg, VA. After graduating from the Vet Tech Institute of Pittsburgh in July 2012, Kaitlyn had the opportunity to do a rotating specialty externship at Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center. It was there that she became passionate about working with veterinary oncology patients. She also had the opportunity to continue working as a lead veterinary oncology nurse while living in Southern California for the past three years. Since moving back to the east coast, Kaitlyn has been happy to continue working in this field with TOS at our Springfield location. She shares her home with her Samoyed, Yuki, and her cat, Rogue.
Rebecca Veterinary Assistant
Rebecca is a native of Springfield, Virginia. She worked as a veterinary assistant at a general practice in Burke, Virginia and then in 2013, graduated from Virginia Tech with degrees in Animal and Poultry Sciences and Dairy Science. During her time at Virginia Tech, Rebecca worked for a veterinary orthopedic surgeon and completed undergraduate research in small ruminant nutrition. After returning to the Northern Virginia area, she worked for the Marion DuPont Scott Equine Medical Center before coming to The Oncology Service. Her interest in cancer treatments has grown since she started working for TOS. She is specifically interested in clinical trials and determining new treatment methods for her clients' pets. Rebecca shares her home with a Labrador Retriever, Larkin, and an Australian Shepherd mix, Maiken.
Gladys Operations Manager
Gladys has a graduate degree in Health Care Administration from George Mason University. She is experienced in optimizing efficiency and improving systems in front and back office operations. She is excited to be a part of The Oncology Service. Gladys was born and raised in Accra ,Ghana and has spent most of her adult years in Virginia. She enjoys cooking and reading.
Jen Referral Lead and Veterinary Assistant
Jennifer is a Virginia native and recently relocated to the Richmond area from Springfield. She started working in veterinary medicine in 1998 at a busy general practice and has over 7 years of oncology experience. Jennifer loves working with the patients and their owners, and takes pride in being a part of their care. During her free time, she enjoys crafts, gardening, and spending time with her pets. She shares her home with her husband, Ben, 2 dogs, Kaylee and Ryder, Bentley Anderson, the Siamese kitty, and Maverick, the parrotlet.
Stacy graduated from the University of Delaware with a BS in Finance and minors in Economics and Biology. She joined the TOS team in January 2010 and previously worked for 9 years as a public accountant. Stacy is married with two little boys and two dogs. While she works with numbers and not animals each day, Stacy is proud of the work TOS does to help pets with cancer enjoy a good quality of life for as long as possible.
